It all started in 1996 with pain in my right knee. I love to run, but I also like playing recreational basketball. However, playing basketball was
causing some pain in my right knee and was interfering with my running. So I decided to visit a specialist, an orthopedic surgeon. He noticed the
shifting of my right knee was very loose. After several visits, we made an appointment for arthroscopic surgery. During the surgery, he removed
several chipped bone particles and confirmed that I had a complete tear of my anterior cruciate ligament(ACL).
During the post operation consultation, he provided me with two options, 1) have another surgery to repair the torn ACL, or
2) discontinue running to prevent further damage, and don't even think about running a marathon. He did, however, offer another alternative
which was to take up a low impact sport - golf. That was a wonder suggestion that allowed me to learn the game of golf
(which is a great game I may add). But I'm a runner, which is a gift from God. Therefore, I've learned not to let man place limitations on a
gift from God. This is way I run.
This book "I Run Because He Said I Couldn't" captures special moments and memories of me and my family covering the 50 states in the U.S. It captures the beauty of the vast
terrains in the different states and displays some breath taking pictures of God's creation.
This book is not so much about me running as it is about a family journey around the United States. Hopefully, our story will inspire you to set
your goals high and to do something you think is out of your reach. A wise and successful business man once told me, "You cannot enjoy nice
things or go to nice places if you are afraid of challenges and risks."
Therefore, my stretch goal was to run a marathon on the other 6 continents(Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe and South America). North America can be viewed in the Book, "I Run Because He Said I Couldn't" . I did not plan to write a book about my journey running a marathon on the other 6 continents; instead, I wrote a nice blog about each running experience on the continents.
